Broad big crown: Ask us to ‘think big’.
Intelligent Elephant head: It is symbolic of auspiciousness, strength and intellectual prowess. Elephant is the largest and strongest of animals yet he is gentle. This is how we should make ourselves.
Tiny Focused eyes: Refers to an eye for details to get success in any venture. It also indicates us to be focused i.e. importance of concentration.
Careful large ears and small mouth: This gives us a guru mantra to be focused – ‘Listen more and talk less’. Large ears also show that Lord Ganesha is always attentive to all requests made by his devotees.
Flexible Trunk: Trunk is highly flexible and teaches us to be efficient and adaptable. The curvature is also said to represent the rising of the kundalini the spiritual energy.
The broken tusk – Ekdanta: (Ek meaning one and danta meaning teeth). Ganesh has only one tusk other is broken off. This symbolises the importance of holding on only to the good and discarding the bad.
Protective -Abhaya mudra: His lower right hand symbolises Ganesh’s blessings and protection to his devotees.
Powerful Axe: Lord Gnaesha hold an Axe which is said to cut off all worldly attachments.
Ankusa – Controlling Rope: He pulls the devotee nearer to the spiritual path by the rope. It also demonstrates that mind is like a wild elephant, running here and there, in chaos. And we must use the ankusa to tame and control our mind.
Modak – The sweet: This sweet signifies the reward, sweetness, joy and satisfaction we receive while worshiping Lord Ganesh. These are also the results of following the spiritual path.
The large belly: It guides us about the way we should live our lives. We must be able to accept and digest whatever experiences we go through – be they good or bad.
Legs of Lord Ganesha: He sits with one leg folded up and the other leg resting on the ground. The leg on the ground asks us to be down to earth. And the leg pointing upwards represents that Lord is meditating.
Lotus – Symbol of purity: Lord Ganesh is often seen with a lotus in his hand. Lotus which grows in stagnant water, but raises it’s flowers above the water line so that their purity will not be blemished by the polluted waters underneath, we can live in this world but remain unpolluted by the materialism and negative qualities of our surroundings.
Offerings at His feet: He is often seen with a huge array of different kinds of food offered to him. The food represents material wealth, power and prosperity and indicates that if you do live a life of high ideals and principals, these material benefits will always be available for you.
Musak –The Greedy vehicle: Represents desire. Rats are considered as very greedy and active. They keep running here and there for food and destroy far more than they need. Similarly if we become greedy we will waste our whole life in fulfilling one or the other desire. So we should keep our desires firmly under control as Lord Ganesha does.
